allanf Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 Is there any way in PE 2 to auto detect USB keys? This would be a nice feature to have. From the WinPE 2.1 User's Guide (referring to WinPE 2.0):Windows PE 2.0 contains several new features....Plug and Play (PnP) support: Hardware devices can be detected and installed while Windows PE is running. This supports any in-box Plug and Play device, including removable media and mass-storage devices. This is enabled by default.I assume by 'USB Key' that you mean a USB Flash Drive/Device ... ...Have you tried inserting the 'USB Key', and from the Command Prompt, changing drive letters, starting with:d:?Have you made any customizations to your Windows PE 2.x?Regards
Tripredacus Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 I agree. Your PE should already be able to do this. Even v2.0 could detect USB keys automatically. It won't autoplay or show you anything on the screen, but you should be able to verify its drive letter after being plugged in with Diskpart. Use the list vol command to see the drive letters.
Eagle710 Posted March 25, 2009 Author Posted March 25, 2009 I was wondering if i could make a popup appear with a message when it connects. It does detect it but I thought maybe a tool may have existed to make this happen.
