Computer name and Log off button

I made my 4th different version of nlited XP. This latest version is a much more hardcore tweaked xp pro that can be used for gaming computers and really old computers that need an extreme amount of tweaking so they can run xp decently fast. There was only 1 real problem with the disk, it said the Computer Name cannot be a single digit, only a single letter. I originally set the computer name to 1, however when the error popped up it prompted me to change it so I put c. The other minute problem is that I would like to remove the Logoff button. I used a registry change to adjust this on mine but would like to make it so these 2 changes are done automatically.

I made this latest disk last night. I burned the image to disk, and closed nlite. It has not been opened since. Please tell me exactly what I have to do in order to preserve everything BUT make these 2 changes, so I can then have a completely finished perfect disk (Without having to do the entire thing all over again).

LAST_SESSION.INI

The Last Session.ini file is the "road from A to B" that is created before the "burn iso' step, after the process completed. It can be reloaded in a next session but you'll only get same results if you start with same files (A to B).

So to achieve your goal, you need that file (and maybe the associated _u.ini file that contains some unattended parameters) but also the Windows files you started with. If those are were the result of a previous nLite transformation, things become a little more tricky.

No I started this with a fresh disk, slipstreamed sp3, installed wmp11 and ie7, slipstreamed sata drivers, and went through all the options.

Its saved and preserved and hasn't been touched, I just need to know exactly what to do so I can make these 2 changes without having to do the whole thing all over again.

AGlobalThreatsK, if you make any changes using nLite, I recommend you start with a fresh source. If you are going to add .reg files to an already existing RunOnce exit, then just do that and build an ISO in the last step only of nLite. There are some things nLite can do to a source that has already had nLite run on it, but no one seems to know exactly what you can and cannot do. Good luck, John.

Depends if by "the whole thing" you mean "the whole manual selection" or "the whole process that last 15 minutes".

You could manually edit your "winnt.sif" and problem 1 would be solved. That's what I'd do.

Then for the tweaks (I can't actually remember if the "Log off" button is one of them), I'd start nLite with your current set of files (yes) and load the "last sesion.ini" (the list of preset files appear just after you select the working directory, you need to select and click "Load") then deselect everything but "tweaks" (last step before "make iso"), apply the new tweak and let nLite change just that (in about a minute).

You'll end up with a new Last session.ini, keep an eye on the former one in case you were to change more later.

Or you could also follow the rules, start nLite with a new set of files, load last session.ini and leave everything selected as it was, reapply SP3, re-enter the new computer name, add your tweak and have nLite reprocess the whole thing.

AGlobalThreatsK, here is a Registry tweak I found via Google for hide the Log Off button. I tried it on my XP x64 and it does not work, so you should test before you do your install. Now, you have a couple of choices. Have fun, John.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoLogOff"=dword:0000001

EDIT: Here is the code that works for XP x64:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"StartMenuLogOff"=dword:0000001

I already fixed it but thanks for the replies.

I successfully re-edited the old last session and got it to remove the log off button and change the computer name.

When the error about the computer name (During installation) first popped up, I had to click OK for the error and then manually input a computer name. Then when I clicked Next, the data/time popped up asking if the date/time was correct. It was so I clicked Next, and then the installation resumed and I was greeted by the desktop shortly after. Now the only problem with this "fixed" disk I made, is that the date/time still pops up asking if it is correct, even though there is no longer an error for the computer name.

This honestly doesn't bug me and I don't mind, but is there any easy fix for this? Installation was still set to Unattended. If theres no easy way to fix this then I'll just leave it, it's not a big deal at all. Just curious if you guys know how..
