Sephiroth Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 I'm working on a custom XP Pro x64 CD for my BTX gaming rig (home-brew machine) and may have hit a roadblock. The Creative X-Fi drivers for my soundcard (Extreme Music) contain not only the core driver, but also software that is needed to use the card. How can I slipstream these into the CD? I have added SP2 for x64 and every update since then, and I even added the Intel ProSet and nVidia drivers, but this has me at a loss.
johnhc Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 Sephiroth, I have a similar problem with the Catalyst Drivers for my video card. My solution is to integrate the drivers using nLite and the SW (CCC) with Kurt_Aust's method. Please see his guide for details. After you run nLite, you can look in folder NLDRV in the AMD64 folder (Windows after install). All the drivers are there. In my case, CCC was not present, so I need some way in get them to my target. I have tested only on VMware Server (waiting for AMD to announce a CPU I want), so I can't say for sure it works. Enjoy, John.
Sephiroth Posted February 19, 2009 Author Posted February 19, 2009 That's way too much overkill for me. I simply need to add the Creatvie X-Fi drivers and utilities. I also don't like Vista products (WMP11/IE7) on my XP systems, and I see them both in that post. I just need to know how to get the driver (or any installer) to run so I can use the system once Windows is installed. It would be nice to be able to install the .NET frameworks (1.0, 1.1, 2.0, and 3.5) as well, but if not that is OK.Thanks for the information and all, but it's WAY too much for my needs.
johnhc Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 Sephiroth, I use Kurt_Aust's guide, update list and batch files, but I removed many things that are there. It is written in such a way that if the file is not there, no harm/no foul. The bat just goes on to the next install. I guess you noticed that .NET is installed along with Directx. Even if you don't use his guide directly, you can use his technique to run a .bat out of the RunOnce exit in Unattended and his .bat is a good source for the switches necessary. Notice that he installs several MS updates that do not integrate with nLite. Enjoy, John.
Sephiroth Posted February 19, 2009 Author Posted February 19, 2009 Is it possible to just have nLite run the installer silently after the system is up? I thought that there was a way to run a program after XP is installed but before the user logs in. That's really all I need to do. If not, I'll try to parse out those batch files and deal with them, but I'm a C++ guy myself, and haven't played with batch files since DOS 6.22! Thanks again for your help.
johnhc Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 Sephiroth, there is also Windows Post Install (WPI). See forum just a couple below nLite's. I use it also to install several registry tweaks and programs. It contains a built-in silent switch finder that often discovers the proper switch(es) to use. I also use AutoIt to create unattended installers when I can't find switches. There are also Add-Ons, which I don't use - see subforum at top of nLite page. I also suggest you look into a virtual system to test your resulting ISO. I use VMware Server - at the time I needed one, it was the only one to support XP x64. VirtualBox now supports x64, but I have not tried it, but others here have. It is much smaller than VMware Server (last I DLed was 575 MB). Both are free. Enjoy, John.
