Seagate drive firmware update

As much as I want to believe Seagate, the skeptical side of me knows better. Recent threads about updates making bricks has led me to transfer all my Seagate data onto WD drives, then toss them on the bone pile until I know *for sure* that this issue is resolved.

So how have your experiences been with the new firmware? What version are you using?
