mrwolf Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 nLite 1.4.9.1 still asks for my XP product key. I used a fresh copy of XP Home Edition with SP 1A install disc, slipstreamed only SP 3, and did all this in one session. I chose "Fully Automatic" install with not one hotfix, tweak or any other change except fixing "Unattended" settings. What's wrong? LAST_SESSION.INI
johnhc Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 mrwolf, I assume you are sure you entered the exact correct key? If so, try unchecking all the tasks you do not really use, such as Remove Components, Tweaks, Options and see if it will work. If this does not work, uncheck SkipOOBE box. Are you seeing any other errors during nLite or install? Please let us know what you learn. Enjoy, John.
mrwolf Posted January 27, 2009 Author Posted January 27, 2009 (edited) Thanks for the reply. I have the correct XP product key. So I implemented your advice into another nLite slipstream XP install disc but it still asks for the product key. The last session file is attached as "LAST SESSION2.INI." Now what?LAST_SESSION2.INI Edited January 27, 2009 by mrwolf
johnhc Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 mrwolf, not sure what. When you put in your key, does the install progress OK? When you are asked for the key, does it give any error or reason for asking? I assume you did this experiment on a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, did all your work in one nLite session and included only one SP. If not all three, please repeat the experiment. Look in your Last Session_u.ini (don't post it) and see if the CDkey is correct. Have you tried erasing and keying your key in again in the Unattended task? Thanks for the test and report. Enjoy, John.

johnhc Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 mrwolf, I am almost out of ideas. The only thing I can think of is what kind of source do you have? Is it OEM, Retail, VLK, recovery or something else? For instance, some recovery CDs contain changes that interfere with the integration process. Please let us know. Enjoy, John.
mrwolf Posted January 28, 2009 Author Posted January 28, 2009 The only thing I can think of is what kind of source do you have? Is it OEM, Retail, VLK, recovery or something else? It's an OEM XP Home cd from Dell. It came with my Dimension XPS in 2004. In the "Unattended" settings, I have disabled "Password Exp., disabled Sys Restore, enable Autologon for my user account, and disabled all Password settings.
olddude Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 I have exactly the same problem. My Compaq came with an OEM XP home w/ SP1a.Using nlite, I slipstreamed SP3 with the OEM disk. When nlite asked for the key wordI left it blank for creating my new, unattended boot disk. During the install process,I was asked for the key word. I left it blank and the installation continued, but whenrunning XP it asks for the key word. How do I deal with this problem? I think mrwolf has the same problem.olddude.
johnhc Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 olddude, I don't understand how leaving the key blank allowed you to continue your install. Since your system is running, please post a screen shot of its asking for the key. Please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Enjoy, John.

I know this is for olddude, but here's a screenshot of the product key warning that I get on my Dell.I just found this concerning using nLite with a Dell system.http://www.msfn.org/board/lofiversion/index.php/t47278.html Edited January 29, 2009 by mrwolf
olddude Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 There are two parts to this question. The OEM install disc that came with the Compaq has no key word. When installingusing this disk, the key word question is never asked during installation or at anytimeafter installation. I'm assuming that when one buys a new computer, the OS disksupplied with the computer does not require a key code. When creating an install disk using nlite and using the OEM OS disk, nlite presentsa window requesting the key code. If there is a key code it is hidden from the userand nlite. I tried simply leaving the key code blank and nlite continued throughslipstreaming and all the other processes and I burned an installation disk. When installing XP from the nlite disk, the key code window was presented and windows accepted a blank key code. However, whenever I turn on windows XPit asks me for a key code and tells me that I have 30 days left to register XP.olddude
mrwolf Posted January 30, 2009 Author Posted January 30, 2009 Well, I'm totally confused. The OEM XP disc that came with my Dell is somehow linked to the computer's BIOS. That's what I found on Google. I have found 3 different XP product keys linked to my OS. (I guess that's what these numbers are) I used a keyfinder to find the key on my HD. Then there is one in the I386 folder's "unattended.txt" file on the disc itself. And also there is a COA with a product key on the case of my Dell. I wonder if that is the same with a Compaq.
Kelsenellenelvian Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 Yup its all pretty much the same....
mrwolf Posted January 30, 2009 Author Posted January 30, 2009 So I just can't use nLite with my system?
