George27 Posted January 22, 2009 Share Posted January 22, 2009 I was doing a search under remove hardware icon disappeared and for a solution there was create a shortcut for: %windir%\system32\RunDll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL hotplug.dll to bring up the window. I remember that the hard drive was listed in the hardware devices box. In my case it no longer is. I suspect this why the remove hardware icon isn't loading up at startup. I ran the western digital utilities smart test which there were no errors and the disk is running quitely and quite cool as a matter of fact at 29c. HDTune on the other hand is showing some (BE) (unkown attribute) as failed and can't get any information as to what that is. Of all the different smart software tests programs I ran (extended testing) hdtune is the only one showing a failed flag. Is the fact that the remove hardware icon anything to worry about?
