ahmay
I'm from China. This is the first time I use nlite to slim a XP SP3 for my Samsung NC10.Because my language is Chinese I do not post my Last Session.ini.After installration, the total files in C:\ just 858MB.The system runs fast.So I install all my needed drivers such as chipset/display/audio/lan/wlan/touchpad/bluetooth etc. They all worked fine and the system still fast. But when I install the driver for my webcom(Namuga 1.3M Webcam by Vimicro Corporation).Everything changed. The system startup became so slowly. It almost cost me 1-2 mintues to wait the desktop after the login screen. So I searched the problem in Internet and I knew a guy who own a net-club in China had the same problem.Maybe a necessery service or part is reduced cause the problem?Pls help me.Thanks a lot. GrofLuigi
Cameras and camcordersScannersBoth are tied to Windows Image Acquisition service, which is needed for your camera. If by any chance it isn't removed, set it to automatic. (I had a Vimicro cheap webcam once that needed WIA to work).GL
johnhc
ahmay, in the future, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Also, make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Enjoy, John. (I had a Vimicro cheap webcam once that needed WIA to work).GLThanks for your directions. But,the Camera works ok after the system installation. That is,I can use my Camera with the system driver(It's recognized as an USB Camera in the device manager). Then I install the driver(downloaded from Samsung website) and I find the system startup turn slowly. If I had made a snap with Total Uninstall,I can uninstall the Camera driver and get a fast startup. If I use the windows uninstall,I can uninstall it but still have the slowly startup.I will try again and keep the components you mentioned. Thanks again. It seems that another thing that can be suspicious/problematic is any startup entries or services that the driver installs. Sometimes drivers can be quite heavy and include components that are not essential for function of the hardware or are intended for another version of Windows. If you can, try (temporarily) disabling the startup entries that the driver package created. If you need help, I can analyze the Total Uninstall log for you (but only if it's Total Uninstall version 2.XX, that's what I have).GL Edited January 16, 2009 by GrofLuigi

DCOMLaunch is one of essential services in XP and it's very dangerous to disable it. (It's rarely needed, but when it's needed... it's needed. I, for one, as much as I like to disable useless services, never touch this one - I have been burnt before). So you'd better find out what's wrong with your system and what's preventing the service from starting. I still bet it's a buggy driver.Otherwise, glad I've helped a little.
