plizarralde Posted November 8, 2008 Posted November 8, 2008 Hi !!I made an unattended XP SP3 dvd, it install OK but I see some weird thing. I've installed FILLCD, mIRC, Nero, etc. and I found it, that there are the same installer of these software in 3 folders:C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\Program DataC:\Documents and Settings\Pablo Lizarralde\Program DataC:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile\Program DataIt's normal or is a bug in nlite ? I think that is a waste of HD space.Excuse for my english. TIAPablo
johnhc Posted November 8, 2008 Posted November 8, 2008 plizarralde,You got me guessing! I searched my computer (XP x64) and found no Program Data or ProgramData folders at all. A quick Google search indicated they my be used by licensed programs. You say the installers are in them. Do you mean a full copy of the installer - perhaps many MBs? Please attach (no paste) your LastSession.ini. We don't have a translation problem with the folder name do we? You not talking about the Program Files folder?Enjoy, John.
plizarralde Posted November 9, 2008 Author Posted November 9, 2008 I mean full installer of the software (ex. nero66115.exe of about 33,5 Mb). I'm sorry, I was wrong, inside "Default User" folder and in my case "Pablo Lizarralde" folder there are subfolders named 7zS6DF.tmp and 7zS70A.tmp with the installer of above and in the other folder from FILLCD. I'm sure that has nothing to do with "Program Files" folder in C:\, because these folders are inside of "Documents and Settings" folder, in fact, in the root of this 2 folders are a "Notes70.htm" (I guess it's from IE7 but I don't know why is located here) and in this location it was the installer of mirc too. Here it's a transcription of LastSession.ini[Main]Env = 1.4.9.1 - johnhc Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 plizarralde,You mostly still have me lost. Does temp_dir = %USERPROFILE%\Configuración local\Temp mean the same as temp_dir = %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temp? This is where the temporary files are normally. The 7z***.tmp are temp folders from 7-Zip, a compression/decompression utility used by many program. I don't know why the folders are where they are, but I am not surprised that they are left behind. Open a Run dialog and type %temp%, you should see more left behind temp files/folders. "Notes70.htm" is a HTML file and opens with a browser. Go ahead and open them and see what they say. I don't see anything in your LastSession.ini that is a problem but there is still lots there I can't read.Enjoy, John.
plizarralde Posted November 11, 2008 Author Posted November 11, 2008 Yes, %USERPROFILE%\Configuración local\Temp is the same folder (in spanish) %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\TempAs you said, it seems like 7-zip left behind this temporary folders."Notes70.htm" is a readme of thumbplus and again I don't know why in the installation was left behind (besides "Program Files") in the "Default User" and Pablo "Lizarralde" folders. In these two folders there is another folder "{4051F57Exxxxxxx}" that has contain one file "Postbuild.exe", do you know what is this ?It seems like in an unattended setup with nlite, leaves a lot of garbage in several folders. Thanks for all your answers and the time you loose with me, for write this.Pabloplizarralde,You mostly still have me lost. johnhc Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 plizarralde,I have never used AddOns and therefore am suspicious of them in your case. I have done many installs (VMware Server) and never noticed any left behind files. I do not think the source of the extra files is nLite. I think it more likely it is the AddOns. I do a number of installs out of the GUI RunOnce and WPI with no problems. There are few AddOns for XP x64, so I never got into them. Did you make them yourself or use other peoples? If others, you could try PMing them about the files/folders.Sorry I can not be of more help, but I continue to learn interesting things.Enjoy, John.
