adiabolist Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 (edited) Anyone know why this isn't working, or if there's another way of doing this? Did a recent windows update change something? The regedit should be (used to be?) [start] [Run] [Regedit]Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\WinlogonModify/Create DWORD Value of Data type REG_DWORD Named [LogonType] Value Data: [0 - Classic Mode / 1 - Welcome Screen] And the registry entry I'm using (that does change the DWORD value) is Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\ CurrentVersion\Winlogon]"LogonType" ="0"The logon type DWORD value does change from a 1 to a 0, but it does not work at forcing the welcome screen. I can go into the control panel and change it to the welcome screen, and it works, but by doing so it doesn't actually change the registry edit listed above. I can have a 0 set for logon type, change the way users logon to the welcome screen, and the value will stay at 0, but the welcome screen still appears when I reboot and that value listed above will still be a 0, and vice versa. This registry edit has worked since ... forever. I can't figure out why it won't work for me now; any ideas?EDIT: Sorry, this was probably posted in the wrong forum. I posted it here on accident because it relates to my question down below, I am running this regedit after first logon due to a problem I encountered in my installation. johnhc Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 adiabolist,You did not say what OS your are running but I assume XP 32 bit. I looked at my XP Pro 64 bit and it works just as you said yours used to. Have you searched your Registry for "LogonType" to see if there are more than one. I have two but the one in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon is not updated by the Control Panel.Good luck, John.
