  1. I am also interested in this. I have used regedits before that disabled autoplay from popping up every time I inserted something into my PC, but they would still allow you to right click that drive and select autoplay and have it execute the autorun.inf file. Does anyone know the registry edits to do this?
  2. In case anyone else experiences this problem, this is what I did to make it work: (Some steps might not be necessary) [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server] TSEnabled = 1 fDenyTSConnections = 0 fAllowToGetHelp = 1 (for remote assistance) AllowTSConnections = 1 Right click My Computer / Properties / Remote, check remote desktop and add in the users you want to be able to connect. Start the Remote Procedure Call service (unsure if necessary) Turn off Windows Firewall, it will not allow RDP if you've taken it out via nlite. Put in original XP cd and under additional tasks (I think) choose to setup a remote desktop connection. It will re-install some components, and then tell you it can't complete installation but that's fine. Reboot Remote Desktop Protocol now works.
  3. Hello, Operating system: Windows XP Professional SP3. I disabled "Allow receiving remote assistance", and I also disabled "Remote Desktop". However some of the users computers that I have setup have constant questions and it would be preferable to fix their computers without having to run downstairs each time. In hindsight, not such an intelligent decision on my part. I have re-enabled the terminal server via the registry in [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server] and disabled the deny TS Connection. RDP is enabled in system properties, with my user added as allowed. I also started the Remote Desktop Help Session Manager service. As far as I know (which isn't all that much) I should be able to connect. Does anyone know how to undue whatever it is that was done by checking to remove those two options in nlite? I tried to download from the kbase and install it, but it wouldn't let me since I am running XP. Any input appreciated, Thanks!
  4. It's an OEM w/SP3, but I believe I found the problem. It appears to be occuring when I integrate WMP11 into the install. I do the integration before nlite. Going to do a few more checks, but I believe it does something to mess up the way nlite compiles things ..... or something like that. Don't count on me to have the right technical jargon =P I'll post my findings in a bit. I appreciate your willingness to help though John I think I just lucked out and figured it out on accident. Actually it's what you were saying about a clean install, made me think that perhapse the WMP11 integration was corrupting things somehow; looks like you were likely right.
  5. Always a fresh copy, but thanks for the reply! Unfortunately however it's not that. If I remove all options from nlite except unattended stuff it fixes it. I'm in the process of eliminating it, but it's taking a VERY long time. I also experienced this with an "eXPerience" release in the past. I'm trying to narrow it down and will post what I find here if nobody else has ever had the same problem.
  6. The only thing I can't get figured out after months of messing with options is what option I have checked or unchecked to cause the cancel, or retry, or the typical text found in install boxes to be missing. This only happens with certain installs, the C++ run times being one of them. But it is annoying to have 3 blank boxes in front of you and not know which is cancel, retry, or ? for the third box. Any incites from anyone else who has had this same problem is appreciated. Thank you! OEM XP, SP3 last_session.ini
  7. Anyone know why this isn't working, or if there's another way of doing this? Did a recent windows update change something? The regedit should be (used to be?) [start] [Run] [Regedit] Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon Modify/Create DWORD Value of Data type REG_DWORD Named [LogonType] Value Data: [0 - Classic Mode / 1 - Welcome Screen] And the registry entry I'm using (that does change the DWORD value) is Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\ CurrentVersion\Winlogon] "LogonType" ="0" The logon type DWORD value does change from a 1 to a 0, but it does not work at forcing the welcome screen. I can go into the control panel and change it to the welcome screen, and it works, but by doing so it doesn't actually change the registry edit listed above. I can have a 0 set for logon type, change the way users logon to the welcome screen, and the value will stay at 0, but the welcome screen still appears when I reboot and that value listed above will still be a 0, and vice versa. This registry edit has worked since ... forever. I can't figure out why it won't work for me now; any ideas? EDIT: Sorry, this was probably posted in the wrong forum. I posted it here on accident because it relates to my question down below, I am running this regedit after first logon due to a problem I encountered in my installation.
  8. It appears that you have to use the welcome screen on the first login if you want xp to create whatever it creates that places the user picture on the start menu. The $OEM$ folder worked at allowing me to make custom user pictures, and use them for certain user names, but it didn't add the picture to the start menu. I just added the force classic menu to my reg edits to run after first login.
  9. I'll be sure not to remove that one in the future, thanks! It occurred to me what it was, I had forced classic logon on first boot. I don't think I was smart enough to figure that out on my own honestly, I'm pretty sure I read that somewhere a year or so ago and after dwelling on my problem for a few days it came back to me. I changed my install to the welcome screen with no other changes and it resolved the problem. However, I like your solution much better, I'm going to use the $OEM$ folder in the future because I don't want to switch it to classic logon after install. So thanks for that tip!
  10. No, that's a pretty terrible answer.
  11. I'm semi new to nlite, but I've managed to work out all the bugs on my installation except for one. I'm using a Vista theme, and on the start menu instead of a user picture there is just an empty box. I've looked through my options, but I can't seem to figure out what I did to remove the user picture from the installation? I can see a remove user name option, but how did I remove the picture? XP OEM, all updates, IE7.0, WMP11 all hotfixes, VTP (Icons, common dialogs, cursors, etc, no themes installed from VTP, no 3rd party apps, just the basics) I've attached my last session.ini, your expertise is much appreciated =) Last_Session.ini
  12. Thanks jaclaz. I integrated IE 7.0 into the installation, and it appears it defaulted to an unchecked "use inline autocomplete" option. I found the solution in the link you pasted. Click Start, Run and type INETCPL.CPL Click the Advanced tab. Under Browsing, click the Use inline AutoComplete check box Click OK. I'll paste it here in case anyone else has the same problem. Thanks for the help guys!
  13. I don't know what this feature is called exactly or I could maybe figure out what I removed / disabled that I didn't want to. Normally with a full windows install I can begin typing the name of a file I want to open in the open dialog and windows will bring up the rest of the file name in the open file field so that I don't' have to type the entire file name out. It no longer does this. I have turned on autocomplete to see if it was linked, but no avail. Or, for example in any program, like Autocad, if I ctrl-O and get the the open dialog and begin typing in the name of the file I want to open, it won't auto-select / complete what I am typing. Also in Solidworks when I tab through selections, it does not highlight where I am tabbing to. It does move there invisibly, and I could input something into the next box, but the box does not highlight and show me where I am. Any idea what I removed / disabled that I didn't want to? I realize I used examples of cad applications, but it could be any application. MSPaint, trying to open a .jpg Help appreciated, I have looked and looked and looked.
