Sl@y3D for my n@me Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 Today, due to an issue I was having with vista (dual-boot) I performed a BIOS update using my copy of MS-DOS 7.1 from windows 98, taking care to avoid any DOS startup programs. So far, so good, but the computer has suddenly decided to incorrectly report my temperature. At startup, after being off for about 20 minutes, my "system temperature" is reported by the BIOS as 120ºC. Now, as you can imagine, this does not inspire confidence in myself, as my feet would be going up in flames at any second. That said, I have checked what I believe is the "system", the PSU, and it is not hot at all, it is freezing cold. Same goes for the CPU, which is at double its normal temperature. Once again, I point out that if this really was true, I would be fleeing for my life on a regular basis, but hey, at least I'd lose a bit of excess fat! Anyway, the annoying bit is that after a while, the PC starts beeping. It is definately related to the temperature, because it only is triggered when the CPU apparently goes to or above 60ºC. Re-flashing the BIOS to an older version didn't work, and I don't want to try using NT to flash it rather than DOS. I wouldn't trust NT with very much. Would anyone know what is going on?Here is my system specs:Motherboard: Jetway K8M8MS (sometimes referred to by its chipset, K8M800)BIOS: Phoenix AwardBIOSCPU: AMD Sempron 2600+ @ 1.6ghzRAM: 512MBsGraphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 6200I included the last two just in case. Hope somebody can help.By the way, I've been looking around there forums for a while. For 98 resources, there's none finer. Love Autopatcher98 and Revolutions pack.
puntoMX Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 I would not worry about those temperatures, but I would worry about the BIOS update; it seems that Jetway cannot proper write their BIOSes.Why did you update it anyway? Was it not working well? If it was working well I would go back a step and try the older BIOS out.Welcome to the forum by the way!

Also, the main thing that bothers me is that when the CPU apparently gets to around 60°C, it starts beeping in a rather annoying way.Why did you update it anyway? Was it not working well? If it was working well I would go back a step and try the older BIOS out. Some small issues with vista, relating to boot times, which are apparently BIOS related. I did try the old BIOS, but for some reason it was no different. Welcome to the forum by the way! Thanks!
