User on PC1 is accessing her emails using Microsoft Exchange Server, using Outlook 2003

I then set up this user on PC2. PC2 is now downloading all messages from the server onto PC 2 ONLY. No messages are being sent to PC1. The Inbox on PC1 is empty.

The user is only able to access her emails on PC2, which unfortunately is not her normal PC. She needs her emails to be sent to PC1, her own PC.

What do i need to do to enable the server to send messages to both PCs. I know i've changed / ticked something during the set up process of PC2.

I have been advised already to check the box that says "leave a copy of messages on server", but i can only find this option if Outlook as been set up for POP3 accounts.

My knowledge base is novice, but i'm aware that the server at the moment is only communicating with PC2.

Just to confirm the company is running Windows Server 2003 Enterprise edition and the PC's are using Outlook 2003, XP to access emails.

Thanks and your urgent assistance would be appreciated as i need to get the user up and running in the morning.

If you truly have an exchange box and are using outlook in the correct way then the users mailbox is stored on the server and will look the same for any computer they log onto.

Can you confirm exactly how you have setup outlook to point to the exchange server?

Thanks

I've used the email wizard in outlook - 'add new email account', then opted for Microsoft Exchange Server, i'm sure Outlook then gave me an option to direct emails to the PC i was setting up (PC2). Rather than selecting 'no', i selected 'yes', which has caused the problem. It is a case of redirecting the mail from the server to any PC the user logs onto on the network, rather than just PC2 in this case. I can't seem to where i need to look or need to do to revert the Server / PC2 so all incoming messages are not directed to solely to PC2

If you select "microsoft exchange server" you will be prompted for a server and username. The only other thing in there is "cached exchange mode" Which would not cause the problem you are having. Start again and just google "how to configure outlook 2003 for exchange" and follow one of the many tutorials replacing their server name with yours and their username with yours and everything should be fine. :)

check to make sure that the local PST is not where the mail is being delivered to. if it gets delivered to the local pst instead of being in the Exchange OST, then it is like using POP for your mail and nothing will be left on the server.

Hi Iceman. Thank you for your speedy reply. This is beginning to make some sense, as i think i know what i've done when setting up Outlook. The Exchange has been set so emails are being directed to one PC only, as you suggested. I'm new to networking and server management. How / where do i check this, so i can make sure emails are kept on the Exchange OST, enabling the user to pick up his/her emails from any PC on the network when she opens up Outlook. A speedy reply will most be appreciated as i'm at work in a couple of hours time. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME / ADVICE. Pashers

in the control panel open the mail control panel, go to the Data Files Tab. Make sure that the outlook.ost file associated with the user is selected as the default. If her mail has already been pulled down to the PST you can drag the mail from the local folder back to the server and drop it back in her inbox and she should then be able to get it on the other machine as long as it doesn't get pulled back into the PST.
