slipstream sp3 with nlite -> file copy errors during install

hi everybody,

my problem is the following:

I'm using nlite 1.4.9.1 in order to make a Windows XP + SP3 install CD

I have a Windows XP + SP2 install CD

I followed the instructions given here:

sorry it's in french but I speak french, my install CD is in french and I downloaded the french SP3...

I think the images on this webpage are sufficient to understand what I did...

anyway, the result is always the same:

as soon as I try to include the SP3 in the XP install, nlite tells me everything is fine, I burn the ISO and boot on it.

THEN... when windows install wants to copy files on the HD, it gives me errors for many files (quite a lot)...

something like "file not found" or something

it's always the same files, the 1st 2 are adptif.dll and communic.inf

I can't find these files anywere:

-not on the XPsp2 install CD nor in any .cab files on this CD

-not on my XPsp3 HD (sp3 installed via windows update)

-not on a HD on which the XPsp2 install has been stopped after the files copy step & 1st reboot

maybe these files come from the sp3 (I got it as an .exe file, I don't know how to check)

anyway...

I anyone could help me making that Windows XP + SP3 install CD, I'd be very happy

I have not looked at your instructions but have some suggestions. You must always start with a fresh set of the CD files (not nLited before). I copied my CD into a folder and always copy this to a new folder before I start nLite. Have you tried just your source and SP3? Do you use a virtual system to test? I recommend VirtualPC or VirtualBox. I have used neither since I am running XP x64 and use VMware Server. It is huge compared to the other two. You can check in these forums for comments/recommendations on the two. Do you have a retail CD or an OEM CD? Is your CD a 'recovery" CD from your computer manufacturer. If so, tell us which company? Some people report problems with nLiteing some 'recovery' CDs. Please attach (not paste) your LastSession.ini.

I use my "Windows XP + sp2" install CD, provided by my employer... it has the serial already in it (I don't know if it was done using nlite). I don't have any other windows install CD

it is a CD provided by my employer (university of Geneva) it is a retail CD with the UniGE serial included in it

I suspect the problem is in the CD. Perhaps you could post a screen shot of the files on the disk. Explore the CD and take a screen shot. What do you mean by

? What does UniGE mean? Is this a VLK (Volume License Key) CD? Can you do an install with the original CD? Does it install in an unattended (silent) mode?

The LastSession.ini is the Preset file containing all you nLite inputs that is written to your source folder by nLite. We don't need it at this time since you said a simple nLiteing of the source with only SP3 does not work. I suspect you have a much more fundamental problem - perhaps a CD that is already prepared as an unattended install disk.
