Vista Memory Usage

Okay, Okay, I know that vista using all your memory is a "good" thing. But I play games and only have 512MB or ram. I played battlefield 2 then closed it and vista used around 100mb after i closed it where it usually uses 400mb. I then played another game and it performed the fastest it has. just like it would in windows 2000. I am asking how do i lower the memory usage of vista without playing battlefield 2? :P

I have already took out readyboost superfetch and literally everything except notepad and paint.

If you only have 512MB, your best two options are:

-buying more RAM (you can get 4GB of fast DDR2 for like $50)

-not running the latest OS on less RAM than I'd use for XP (i.e. downgrading)

But since you said in another post it's an old 1.8GHz sempron, I'd go for option #2 here.

Thanks but its just a shame you cant empty the cache its using about 70mb for vista and the rest is a cache

I suppose ill just have to keep using windows 2000

For now, yes. There's no reason to run Vista on hardware that barely meets the minimum requirements. You wouldn't really consider running XP on a box with 128MB of RAM and 1.5GB of hard disk space and want to do the same things, would you? :)
