cannie Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 (edited) What's the best firewall for Windows 98 SE today? I never moved from my first ZA 2001, so I only have this experience. Thanks. Edited August 27, 2008 by cannie
herbalist Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 IMO, the best firewall for 98 is an old one, Kerio 2.1.5. It's set up quite differently than ZA and requires a basic knowledge of internet protocol. I've used it since 2003 and see no reason to stop. ldb Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 Outpost Firewall, old and no longer supported, but not as complicated as most. Has some ad blocking features. Also low on system resources.http://majorgeeks.com/Outpost_Firewall_Free_d1056.htmlHelp site:http://www.outpostfirewall.com/guide/
bikerbrom Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 (edited) Netveda Safety.net 3.8 (free version for home use)http://www.netveda.com/downloads/index.htmfor Windows 95, 98, ME, 2000 and XP, and with any compliant Proxy Server or Network Address Translation (NAT) gateway from any provider.Minimum 64mb ram, but recommended 256mb for 'home office environments'-It works well on my system, (1ghz pentum 3, 512 mb ram, 98se updated with 'autopatcher')I run it in 'stealth mode' and it seems to block the nasties very well. You teach it what programs are allowed to access the net, the firewall asks you if you want to grant them access. Edited August 29, 2008 by bikerbrom
