BigDaddy Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 I know bootvis is no longer public but I don't want to use it for theoptimization system, I want the boot time details. Because my shutdown now takes more than half a minute and bootup around 1 min. So I wanna see which app/driver is the problem. Does anyone know where Ican find a piece of software, if there is no bootvis for x64?
fizban2 Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 try process monitor for the startup portion, you could do it as well for Shut down it will give you the info that you are looking for
BigDaddy Posted August 13, 2008 Author Posted August 13, 2008 will this application tell me also about driver and application delays?
TranceEnergy Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 You could always enable maximum 5000ms for closing programs and services. I've runned with those tweaks for years on end, no troubles. I'm sure system needs more time sometimes, but screw that.
BigDaddy Posted August 15, 2008 Author Posted August 15, 2008 Trancethat's the first thing I do on my fresh Windows install.it's not just the shutdown its also the start up. Its sitting there for almost 10sec doing absolutely nothing during boot. Not to much it takes about 3min to get into safe mode
TranceEnergy Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 well that could be because of many things. How much software do you have in startup? Do you run anti virus? memory scanning on boot? those kind of things.Check for driver conflicts, event viewer logs. Prefetch enabled ? There's like a billion reasons. bootvis x64 doesnt exist google says, which is weird. I could have sworn i used to use it some years back.
BigDaddy Posted August 16, 2008 Author Posted August 16, 2008 Trancethat is exactly why I would need a bootvis because there can be a milion reasons. I also went into MSCONFIG in disabled all non microsoft services and startup items and nothing helped. In device manager all is ok.pa. about the bootvis. It works on X32 just not on X64
TranceEnergy Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 Since it doesnt exist, how can you then expect someone to give it to you? If you have prefetching active you can check that log for seeing what windows loads in what order.
BigDaddy Posted August 17, 2008 Author Posted August 17, 2008 bootvis does exist but only works in 32bit Windows XP.ps. how do I check the log of prefetching?
TranceEnergy Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 I dont have it enabled so i cant check the filename, but as i recall there should be a .ini file in prefetch\ directory along with the prefetch files. This file will show you in what order windows loads prefetched files. It will also show you if you should clean up some prefetch files. Also startup menu directories etc are prefetched, usually.
BigDaddy Posted August 18, 2008 Author Posted August 18, 2008 the only .ini file is called layout.ini and that one is full of strange code.
TranceEnergy Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Well that is the file.. It should contain path\file names. What do you mean by strange code?
