mikesw Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 (edited) FYI for those wondering about VISTA 64bit maximum memory support.Home Basic is limited to 8GB, Home Premium is limited to 16GB and the other editions (Business, Enterprise and Ultimate) let you get all the way up to 128GB.Currently XP is limited to 4Gig, but I don't know if this is just 32 bit or if it's true for 64 bit too. CoffeeFiend Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 This page has all the Windows memory limits you may be interested into: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa366778.aspxCurrently XP is limited to 4Gig, but I don't know if this is just 32 bit or if it's true for 64 bit too.The 64 bit version of XP can use 128GB, as the previously linked page shows. For all practical desktop use (no specialized hardware, etc), 32 bit OS'es are limited to 4GB of address space, some of which is used by your video card(s), and some more by other hardware. So you'll always have less than 4GB available. See Mark's Russinovich's "Pushing the Limits of Windows: Physical Memory" blog entry for more details if you're interested.
cluberti Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Nice to see Mark getting on the bandwagon. Documented/dealt with here on MSFN over a year ago .
CoffeeFiend Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 over a year ago .Yes, but your post lacks the cool factor of that 64 core monster with 2TB of RAM I wish I had one of those to play with... Hey, I'd even settle for half of that Great x264 encoding speeds finally!Seriously, I thought it was a pretty good read. It covers mostly everything in one page, with a decent amount of detail and lots of pretty pics.
