No CD and CRW drives after the installation of XP SP3

I installed it from the hard disk, not having it on the CD and then installing. May it be the cause of the problem?

Nope, it's nothing to do with where the installer was run from.

Your problem is almost certainly as twig123 has said - you have some software installed which has installed some filter driver related to CD/DVD drives (burning software, Daemon Tools, ISO mounting software, etc.) and it doesn't work with SP3.

Yes. Mr Snrub, thank you for your reply, too. I did the following:

- Uninstalling Daemon Tools and Nero Ahead.

- Installing SP3.

- Reinstalling Daemon Tools and Nero Ahead.

- Installing a modified pack.

And it works fine. How simple! Thanks again for all the information. It helps a lot.

Roxio is the most common cause, but as stated above it can be caused by other software as well.

Those Upper & Lower Filters can be quite pesky
