Network Problems

Recommended Posts

Okay.

A Friend has 3 PC's connected Via ethernet cable and a Hub. The PCS access certain shared folders on PC1. Pc2 and 3 can no longer access the certain shared folders.

Message says:

An error occurred while reconnecting,

Microsoft Windows Network. Network path was not found.

Connection has been restored.

Pc2 and PC3 show local area connection, as connected 10Mbps.

Under my computer PC 2 And PC3 Shows:

Network Drive: QuickBooks on PC1.(Q: )

Disconnected network drives.

PC1 Finds network name when adding a new network place. But upon clicking the network name, No PCS show. I right click the network name and press explore the following message appears.

Network name is not accessible. You might not have permissions to use this network resource.

Contact the admin of this server to find out if you have access perms.

List of servers for this workgroup is not currently available.

I didn't actually set up this network, but have been drafted in to help out.

Any ideas people?

Another Problem or question!

Wireless router, say if someone connected to it, can they find th names of the pc's that are networked? If so how? and could this be related?

Only PC1 in the network has internet access, as does another PC which is not part of the network.

Could it be related?

Cheers In Advance...

At first I would way it´s a hub problem, if you hook up each PC to the modem itself without using the hub they can access internet?

Another point could be the DHCP server; did you check the IPs of the PCs?

There are more things to look at but first check the 2 points above...

Check the IPs of the computers.

start->run -> cmd -> ipconfig

Check that file and printer sharing is running

control panel -> network connections -> lan properties -> check file and printer sharing (also check firewall has not blocked it)

Check machines can ping each other

start-> run -> cmd -> ping computername
