johnhc Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 Kelsenellenelvian,I found a reference to your Quick Launch enabler (Dled it) and wondered how to use it. Will it work on XP x64?Thanks, John.
Kelsenellenelvian Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 Probably... You add it into nlite as a hotfix...
johnhc Posted June 25, 2008 Author Posted June 25, 2008 Kelsenellenelvian,Can I test it on my VM - how? Thanks, John.
Kelsenellenelvian Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 sure can, integrate it in your disk with nLite and then run the installation. If at the end you see the quicklaunch bar then its all good.
johnhc Posted June 25, 2008 Author Posted June 25, 2008 Kelsenellenelvian,You are being obstreperous. I meant: can I test on my already running VM, without building a new ISO. Perhaps 'executing' the .ini or .inf? Thanks, John.
Kelsenellenelvian Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 Umm I don't even remember if I set a defaultinstall section in that inf... If it does have a defaultinstall section then yes you can try it. I cant find the addon on my server so I can't look at it. Just disable the quicklaunch bar normally, right click and install on the inf and the reboot. It should work.p.s. WHAT DID YOU CALL ME? O_o j/k
johnhc Posted June 25, 2008 Author Posted June 25, 2008 Kelsenellenelvian,Thanks for your reply.I had tried doing an Install (via right click) on your .inf but nothing. I tried again with the restart and still nothing. I don't see a default section in your .inf (attached). It looks like you are installing a value for "TaskbarWinXP". Neither my host or guest Registry has this value - Quick Launch enabled/disabled, before or after your .inf (has Taskbar with similar value). Perhaps that is the point or perhaps XP x64 is different.I just called you a little obstinate. If you have ieSpell installed, then highlight the word, right click and click 'Lookup on Merriam Webster'.Thanks, John.
johnhc Posted June 25, 2008 Author Posted June 25, 2008 Kelsenellenelvian,I added your cabinet file to my ISO and did an install. I don't have the Quick Launch, but I can see your TaskbarWinXP value in my Registry. It is quite different from the Taskbar value in the same key. Thanks, John.
Kelsenellenelvian Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 OK then do this:Open regedit and browse to this key: "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Streams\Desktop"export it using a registry editor then add it to your inf file and your set, hope this info helps.(Don't forget to set quicklanch enabled first)If you don't know how to convert to an inf just attach the reg file and I will recompile it to you. Hell I will make a addon outta it for you...Yeah sometimes I get kinda obstinate.
johnhc Posted June 25, 2008 Author Posted June 25, 2008 Kelsenellenelvian,I will be a little obstinate myself. I have already tried what you suggested, but I think I messed up with some extra blanks. I put the Registry data into your .inf (replacing the TaskbarWinXP), removed the WinXP, then made a .cab using 7-Zip. After it didn't work (Desktop key was missing), I discovered some blanks after the ',"Taskbar",1,'. I will try again after supper. Thanks for your help.Enjoy, John.
johnhc Posted June 26, 2008 Author Posted June 26, 2008 Kelsenellenelvian,Thanks to your help and guidance, I have been able to create an Addon that enables the Quick Launch Bar and switches to large icons.A couple of funny things happened on the way. When my install first completed, I had only an IE icon in the QL Bar but after a reboot, the Show Desktop appeared. When I was getting the Registry data to put into your .inf, I rebooted several times. I would do an export of the Desktop key and compare to past ones I had exported. These always had 10 mis-compared bytes. This happened even if I changed nothing, just rebooted. I don't know what this means - oh well. Thanks for volunteering to make an Addon for me. I don't really know how to create one but I learned a lot by my obstinance.Enjoy, John.
Kelsenellenelvian Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 Did you integrate wmp11 or ie7? They have been known to cause that desktop shortcut bug before.
johnhc Posted June 26, 2008 Author Posted June 26, 2008 Kelsenellenelvian,I do have IE7 integrated and have done MP11 several times but not lately. I have never created a complete ISO, only most of the pieces, a few at a time. I am waiting for AMD to release a Phenom to finalize my plans for an upgrade. I am also using Kurt_Aust's procedure for installing some things and I am suspicious that when his procedure issues the restart some Windows 'Personalizations' are getting killed, causing the Quick Launch folder to be missing. I have not seen this since I removed the restart. This is why I am trying to use WPI's Reboot function(s) and opened the other question that mritter is looking at.Thanks.Enjoy, John.
