How to use nLite

okay so a mates hard drive f***ed up so im doing a new install on his lappy(its been a while since i last did an install) and the new hard drive wasnt recognised(Sata) so i did a bit of research asked some mates and they pointed me here. The laptop is an asus g2s. So ive downloaded nLite, installed it, and ran it. now what?

I assume i need to 'slipstream' the driver. so i looked on the asus website and theres an eSata driver for vista, but not for xpsp2. does this mean i have to install vista? Does anyone have a step by step guide to doing this? help!

Here is a much simpler alternative to the problem you are having. When you turn on the computer, press whatever key you need to get into the BIOS or ROM setup. I think it's F2 for that ASUS machine. When you get into the BIOS, look around until you find where you can change the SATA mode. Try the advanced section IDE configuration. You want to change the SATA mode from native to compatibility mode. I don't have any ASUS computers around and couldn't find the exact setting from ASUS' sham of a website. I know this function exists on HP, Dell, IBM computers. Look for anything in the BIOS relating to the SATA drive and it's mode of operation. On other machines as soon as you change that Windows XP will recognize it and you can install windows. After installing windows, install all of the drivers including the storage drivers from ASUS and you can change it back.

Trust me mate ive tried that. and there is no option in the bios. its your stock standard bucket of s*** bios for this fancy new laptop and god help me i cant figure out why!

Run nlite - next - Browse (find 2) - next - next - click Drivers - click Bootable ISO - next - Insert - Multiple driver folder - find 1 -

- All - OK - next - Yes - Make ISO - next - Finish.

Now burn ISO.

Normally "(laptop manufacturer-name) (model number) drivers windows xp" in google will do.

If you mean it freezes during the installation then cd is damaged

else if it freezes during first or other boot then wrong hard written.

Both cases other probability is hardware failure.

Wait, wait. You said Asus G2S. That doesn't happen to be this Asus G2S that I'm ogling on Newegg?

I did a little research while I was itching to buy it (and still am)... and found this thread about XP drivers on the G2S:

It's a Vista computer (bleh), but it should work with XP.
