error during last step

I have completed all the steps to running nlite 1.4.6 and then during the very last step I get an error message that nLite has encountered a problem and had to close. This has occurred twice now. I tried opening up nLite and going back to that step but can’t get past the first page / step to locate the windows installation files and I cannot use the folder which already everything in there from all the steps that I followed initially stating detected unfinished nLite operation. Don’t reuse broken installations and to redo the process. I have done this twice today. What is the problem???

I am running windows xp professional with sp2 installed on my pc.

First thing I would check is .Net Framework installation. Version 2.0 SP1 works fine for me and is the recommended version. See the bottom of nLite download page.

I am having the same problem, and I have NET 2.0 SP1 installed.

N-Lite seems to be fine combining SP3 with an SP2 disc when that is all that I do. It encounters the problem when I try to add drivers and other things. I need to add SATA drivers as a minimum since I do not have any floppy drives (anymore)

Error message is identifying this dll (msvcr90.dll).

I am running 1.4.6.

What could it be?

Thanks

Nlite brings it's own versions of msvcr90.dll with it. Might be a conflict with a version already installed on the system, if any. In this case, I would uninstall nLite (and wipe it's directory if something's left inside), then reinstall nLite.

I have .net framework 2 as well as the sp1 installed on my pc. In fact I went to my add/remove programs and I also have net framework 3 installed on my pc.

Any other suggestions?

I uninstalled/reinstalled still no luck.

But ....

I rebooted into Safe mode (with networking)

And ...

It seems to have worked. We'll see when I try to actually install XP onto my HP Laptop if:

a - the slipstreamed disc is okay and works as intended; and,

b - there are no proprietary roadblocks thrown up by HP to dissuade one from overwriting their bloated version of Windows XP with a retail version.

(And this goes to both of you) :)

Temporarily disable antivirus (real-time scanning) while working with nLite. There were reports on this board that some of them interfere with nLite's operation.

I had disabled the firewall but didn't think to do the same with my anti virus program. Will try that and let you know if I still have problems.

Thanks!

Hello Again!

Okay, I disabled the firewall again and set my avast anit virus software program to "stop on access protection" which I thought was disabling the antivirus program (found out at the end that it updated itself anyway).Anyway, I was able to complete the entire process this time.

However............I got a couple of errors this time during the integration process that I did not get the first 2 times I tried to use the software.

A couple of them stated that this was not an expected type of hotfix and to report the error (these were listed on the MS website when I selected to see all the updates and hotfixes that were installed).

A couple hotfix integrations failed.

A specified executable is not a valid win32 application

A screen about "install IE , available switches and stuff

2 unhandled exception in UI thread.

and one other error.

A couple of the errors state to include / attach you last session.ini if possible.

I will do so but need to know where to find that .ini file.

Thanks!

lnjr,

About the hotfixes that failed: maybe the download was corrupt or they are not intended for the OS you are nLiting. Not expected type of hotfix: sometimes this is normal, depends whether the component was already present in the source. Or again, not intended for the source OS. If you integrate IE7, WMP... the order is important (the hotfix can't update something that is not there).

You can find LastSession.ini in the folder you were working in (the source folder), inside the finished .iso file (you need to extract it from there) or in the directory where nLite is installed (usually program files\nlite\presets).

Hello Again!

I sort of figured that the problem with the hot fixes may be as you stated, it was just strange because when I tried to make the slipstream CD I got through the integrating hotfixes, packs and themes without any of these errors.

What about the other errors?

A specified executable is not a valid win32 application

A screen about "install IE , available switches and stuff

2 unhandled exception in UI thread.

and one other error.

Also should I attach the Last Session.ini here? I found a "last Session U" and 2 others "Last Session (2008.06.20-1.18.30) & Last Session (2008.06.20-1.18.30)u.

Which of these should I attach?

I did copy and paste the error messages to a word document if any other information is needed about those as well.

Thanks for all the help!

That's what I meant with "corrupt download".

A screen about "install IE , available switches and stuff

I don't understand what this means. Maybe a screenshot?

2 unhandled exception in UI thread.

and one other error.

This again looks like the error(s) from the beginning of this thread, related to .net framework installation and/or some other program (antivirus, firewall) interffering, or maybe a missing .dll... It could be anything.

Also should I attach the Last Session.ini here? I found a "last Session U" and 2 others "Last Session (2008.06.20-1.18.30) & Last Session (2008.06.20-1.18.30)u.

The latest. You should be able to tell by looking at the date. The ones with "U" are not needed. Please remove your CD key, if present. And attach them, don't paste them in the thread.

I did copy and paste the error messages to a word document if any other information is needed about those as well.

Attach that too, but as .txt file.

Thanks for all the help!

No problem. :)
