@jaclaz: I was already thinking about studying it. The way the patch on Win ME was done seems particularly intriguing. I'll keep you posted, but it may take a while before I can work on it...

No prob, no hurry :), IO.SYS has stayed like it is for almost ten years......;)

Why reverse IO.SYS, which is system-critical and 222670 bytes long, when doing so to JO.SYS, which is not system-critical and is just 2048 bytes long ought to accomplish the desired result?

Because the Function keys routine is not held in JO.SYS.
