Vista Ultimate x64 installation issues

I installed Vista Ultimate x64 this weekend and I've about had it with this crappy OS. I may just ditch Vista x64 forever. I have had so many issues with this install. The crazy thing is that I installed it on 2 completely different systems at the same time and I am seeing exactly the same issues on both of them. Crashing apps, IE crashes over and over again. Installs failing, OneCare won't run. Windows Update fails every single time. It won't even detect that I have updates, let alone download them. MCE crashes on startup with the stupid "No Valid Target Found" message.

Can someone explain to me what could possibly be going on here? I was using Vista Ultimate 32 bit for 6 months with few if any issues at all. I moved to x64 because I wanted better game performance and was told that was a good way to get it. I'm running x64 Enterprise at work and it runs great so I figured this would be a no brainer install. Hell I must have installed Vista 50 times during the beta and I never had this many issues, even during the fricken Beta!

Any ideas?

Frst off, welcome to THE forums! Secondly, please give us some more details, such as specs of the machine you are trying to install on... As you can see I am running Vista x64 on the machine in my signature with no issues at all.

Same here, no issues of what so ever, even my old games work fine on x64 and that on a cheaper setup then nitroshift has.

Specs would help indeed; sound more like instable hardware then software...

Sounds like you did basically the same installs on both. We'll need to know what drivers/apps you put on these two systems, because if they're both acting the same, then they probably have something in common (other than you, of course ).

Sounds like something is monkeying with the works - again, we'll need to know what's installed. Also, did you test these right after you installed a clean copy (not vLite'd) of Vista? IE shouldn't crash, WU should work out of the box, other apps should run just fine. Sounds like you've got something on the box Vista doesn't like...

Well, again, we'll need to know exactly what's on the box. Drivers make a HUGE difference in x64, so if you're using drivers (and I include antivirus, firewall, etc - they use drivers too) that aren't top-notch, you can (and will) have a very bad Vista experience.

Soooooo, all that said, what have you installed on this, both hardware and software, after you installed Vista? And, of course I must ask, did you use vLite on this at all?
