Salvi Posted April 27, 2008 Posted April 27, 2008 (edited) A friend of mine asked me to reset his computer to manufacturer defaults. It's an HP compaq nx9010. I searched for a "recovery CD creation" wizard, but I didn't find one. I searched for a i386 or AMD64 folder but there aren't any. I also checked for hidden partitions, but once again, no luck. What I did find is a back-up of the i386-files in the ServicePackFiles folder. I want to make a slipstreamed Windows XP Pro CD with nlite, but is that folder good enough to serve as a real i386? Are there any methods I'm forgetting?Thank you in advance. submix8c Posted April 27, 2008 Posted April 27, 2008 Nope, sorry... that folder is only the Service Pack. Keep looking for the original Install files, or go look for a replacement / buy a replacement for the original install (preferably for the Service Pack level of the initial install). I assume this is XP Pro x64?(p.s. restoring to "factory" definitely involves some kind of HP Restore Media - try HP's website; may have to purchase a Restore Media set if your friend doesn't have a set.)

(don't mind the stupid amd64 remark I made in my previous post haha )It's quite stupid though. Microsoft should have some kind of back-up plan in order to regenerate a Windows installation with a valid OEM activation key, I guess they don't. I'm asking too much, I know.
