RetroOS
I've been using VLC media player for some time in Windows 98SE.It's good for playing QuickTime 7 files.I have Creative Sound Blaster Live! 4-speaker audio. My Creative drivers are:A3D.DLL - 80.0.0.3AC3API.DLL - 4.6.0.506CIFMAN.DLL - 4.5.0.1005CIFMAN.VXD - 4.5.0.1003CSPMAN.DLL - 4.14.0.1CTMM16.DRV - 4.12.1.900CTSYN.VXD - 4.6.0.609CTSYN16.DRV - 4.6.0.603CTWT16.DRV - 4.12.1.900DEVCON32.DLL - 4.6.0.659EMU10K1.VXD - 4.12.1.906SBLFX.DLL - 5.12.1.3210SFMAN.VXD - 4.6.0.502SFMAN32.DLL - 4.6.0.3301These are the latest version VxD drivers that I have determined to work on 98SE.The problem is, that I have never got 4-speaker sound working in VLC...I can use stereo, but 4-speaker just gives me a high pitched scratching noise.I have KB269601 (KB242937) Multi-Channel Non-PCM Audio Update installed. This update allows 4-speaker audio from some other software that did not work before.Generally software needs to use waveOut Win32 API on 98SE to work with more than stereo.But... Not VLC media player...BTW, I've tried the stock-standard Creative 9x Web Release drivers for the Sound Blaster Live! with no difference (except instability in Windows!)...No problem on the same PC with Windows XP and the Creative Web Release XP drivers.Does anyone else have this problem with VLC media player and a Creative Sound Blaster Live! sound card?Or... does anyone use VLC and a Live! card with 4 speakers okay?Obviously this only applies to media with more than two channel sound. glocK_94
Personally I've had nothing but problems with my SB Live!... I miss my old Sound Blaster 128 with emulated DOS drivers. Can you upload your drivers or point me to them please? It's a pain to find stable ones. RetroOS
...The problem is, that I have never got 4-speaker sound working in VLC...I can use stereo, but 4-speaker just gives me a high pitched scratching noise....Okay, it looks like 0.8.6h has fixed my problem...To get VLC player 0.8.6h working in 9x, see here: http://www.msfn.org/board/latest-VLC-playe...510#entry778510I can now select Win32 waveOut extension output and it actually works instead of scratching noise for 5.1 audio...
