makieks Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 (edited) Does anyone know how to make windows installation set the default "program files" folder to separate partition in unattended installation of xp?I wish to install xp into active partition as usual ©,Program files to second partition (D) and I wish the windows to set user files into the third partition (E) by default. Is that possible during the installation or will I have to move these folders afterwards within regedit or something.I Have been using nLite and vmware workstation to try this. But after installation memory fails and the virtual machine restarted several times before I powered of. If you need more info about what I have tryed, please ask. Sorry if my english is poor. IcemanND Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 Yes they can be moved to other drives, but those drives have to be formatted before installation which cannot be done through the normal windows xp setup. You can add lines to your winnt.sif file to place the folders on the desired volumes.Look harderhttp://unattended.msfn.org/unattended.xp/view/web/19[GuiUnattended]ProfilesDir="e:\"[unattended]ProgramFilesDir="D:\My Program Files"

I am going to make this unattended installation to a new hdd. I allready made 3 partitions and formatted them. I allso have modified the WINNT.SIF file as shown in the topic you pointed. I can see now that the test installatinon with vmware workstation didn't work because the partitions CAN be created but CANT be formatted during the istallation. Meaning that the windows puts drive letters only to formatted drives. So I will have to make those three partition into the virtual disk before I setup windows? Am I correct? makieks Posted April 12, 2008 Author Posted April 12, 2008 Yes. That made the thing. But now I was wondering if there is possible way to autopartition. Can unattended setup be set to split harddrive into three partitions and to format them automatically. I gues xp installation it self would not do that, but if there is any application to run before windows installation. and sorry if I am asking stupid guestions
IcemanND Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 You can partition the drive from Windows PE or BartPE using diskpart or other methods and then format the partitions and then run winnt32, or copy the i386 folder to the hard drive first and then run winnt32.
