ijwcomp Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 I have a problem here...I am running Windows Vista Ultimate (RTM) and whenever I attach any USB drive, the indicator blinks all the time and the cursor just keeps on going on Working In Background. I can access my USB drive with no problems whatsoever. By when I click on the Safely Remove Hardware icon, and click on my USB drive it says that something is using it.Frustrated, I pressed CTRL+ALT+DEL and went on Task Manager. I looked at the Applications list, nothing whatsoever is there. But when I click on the Processes list, wmplayer.exe was taking up about 50-90% of my CPU usage. But, I wasn't on Windows Media Player at all! I 'End Process'ed it and tried removing my USB drive. It ejected fine, the Working In background cursors turns back to normal. Why in the world is wmplayer (which I presume is Windows Media Player) running when I insert a USB drive. Maybe I got this wrong, but what relation does my USB drive with Media Player? I do not store music in there, just random word documents, pdf's and stuff.Currently, my solution is that I end process wmplayer every time I plug in my USB drive and don't play music using Media Player (use iTunes instead). But, it isn't really practical is it?Any help, suggestions to help fix this problem would be appreciated.
erpdude8 Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 upgrade to Vista Ultimate Service Pack 1. SP1 seems to improve reliability with inserting and removing USB drives.
