SFC and Windows File Protection

Are these different names for the same thing and if not what is

the difference and how are they related, etc ?

I know that SFC can be disabled in the N-Lite setup and I

have learned NOT to delete any SFC*.* or to patch SFC_OS.dll

because N-Lite seems to do that if you disable it in the N-Lite

setup options.

Patching seems to involve getting a pre-SP2 copy of the DLL

and using a HEX editor to change a couple of values at certain

addresses.

Tinkering with SFC_OS.DLL seems to cause an error message

that states something like: Cannot Find Installer For Hard Disk

and something similar for USB thumb drives.

Comments and bits of knowledge beyond mine respectfully requested.

Using nLite to disable SFC will not cause any errors. Only error you might get is that file is not digital signed and that error can be found in setuperr.log I disabled SFC in mine XP and I never had any problems with it. You probably did something wrong in creating your XP CD, maybe you removed some needed component.
