themomonga Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 Has anyone else had this problem? After installing XP if I go to the start menu and roll over the Connect To menu the start menu and task bar lock up with the start button in the depressed position. I can still click on things on the desktop but they do not come up until 3-10 minutes later when the start menu/task bar start working again. The computer is then fine again until it is rebooted, then it starts all over again. I have seen this before and I went back and changed a few things in my nLite image and it fixed it. I am now having the problem again but changing the same things as before (keeping all the network components & deleting the default network settings) seems ineffective. Any ideas??? It's really annoying!
nuhi Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 No never heard of it.If you have a some sort of desktop search indexing app or antivirus resident protection try tampering with those. Also if you use a firewall with process protection like for example Comodo with Defense+ and maybe the process protections are setup too tightly (blocking some basic services). Just guessing.
sexorcist Posted April 2, 2008 Posted April 2, 2008 nope...having the same prob here....it just restarted after network, even after i remove every addon and settings!nlite used to be worked flawlessly with every addon, settings, and drivers i like, but i've no idea why it happened now.fortunately it's just virtual PC, or did it happened only on virtual PC? not sure, but it used to be worked well.PS: just to confirm themomonga about this problem and he's not alone.
sexorcist Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 hey... i think i get clue about this prob.i've figure it out when installing unmodified XP setup.it seems that the problem is in unattended installer.at that point, you could type the computer name so you don't have to type it again at the network installation progress, didn't you?nah...at the default setting of virtual PC (don't know whether you use it at that time or not), your virtual PC and your 'real' PC are connected as a network.and windows setting would never allow same computer name at the same network. so the attended setup will always ask for different name.i've no idea that instead of prompting different name, the setup restart it self after finishing network setting.believe me, the point is change your computer namei hope it will help....
