bprsystems
using a w2k pro build that has KB926121 included (1.7.3)do i need to replace any files or run a patch to avoid problems?i would re-install with a new build, but i've already spent 7 hours installing and configuring all my stuff. (I.T. guy here, and thinking of going to acting school or anything else before i go crazy. actually, since bill gates gave so much to charity it doesn't bother me nearly as much. thanks.ps: ran chkdsk /f from a dos prompt today - got the "do you want to run on next startup?" said ok. machine rebooted into a chkdsk loop. yeah - it's time to start looking for another job! pps: fixed by using last known good. take care. fdv
RIS? No. You're running Pro, so RIS didn't even make it onto your machine anyway.I have Pro and Server, and to avoid this sort of thing, I manually slipstreamed all 3 or 4 hotfixes into my Server's i386 directory so I could keep Pro and Server in one HFSLIP directory. Tomcat76
Nothing bad will happen if you slipstream it into Win2K Pro. All it does is add one value into the registry that doesn't have any effect on Pro.The only "problem" is that HFSLIP 1.7.3 and earlier versions added a registry value for all Win2K versions which basically told Windows Update that RIS is installed on the machine. To avoid being presented with other RIS hotfixes on Win2K Pro in the future, you can simply remove the RemInst value under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SetUp\OC Manager\Subcomponents".You can also remove the value that's added by KB926121 if you like but that's not necessary:Remove the Masters value under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\TFTPD\Parameters".You can actually remove the entire TFTPD key because it isn't created by installing 2K Pro normally.
