Vince4Amy Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 I have just purchased this ADSL Ethernet router:Extra Value 4 Port ADSL / ADSL2/2+ Modem Router - EbuyerWhen I configured my Internet connection on here I found that I could not access some websites. For example:Microsoft.comMSN.comWindows Live Messenger, etc.I did some research into this and I figured that I could change the MTU settings on the router and then change them on the computer using drtcp. I change the router MTU settings from 1500 to 1492 and then I did this on drtcp. It works fine on this machine, however any other computers I connect to this router they will not display microsoft.com or anything like before.I don't want to be going around changing the MTU Settings every time I add another computer to this router, so is there a setting I could set on this router that it I can connect any machine to it and it will just work.My Internet connection is Orange Broadband, if you need any other information please let me know.

The bigger problem is why do you have to bump down to 1492 or 1486 on that connection for it to work? I'd be asking your ISP.Do you have the MTU issue if you connect your machine(s) directly to your broadband, btw?
Vince4Amy Posted February 21, 2008 Author Posted February 21, 2008 If I use the speedtouch 330 then I can use the broadband connection on any machine without having to change anything obviously as this is a USB Modem. Any computer connected to this has to be modified using drtcp. Also I've just upped the MTU on the Router to 1500. It didn't affect the computer that was modified using drtcp, so I suppose this does mean I'll have to change each computer I connect it to. Reading through the reviews on ebuyer I've not come accross one yet where somebody comments on this happening to them, I'm considering sending the router back and replacing it with another one.
eyeball Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 Orange should supply a livebox router for your connection shouldnt they? with a 4 port swicth? Ask them if you can have one, i was under the impression all orange customers got one, you never know it may just solve the problem
Vince4Amy Posted February 21, 2008 Author Posted February 21, 2008 Well I got my connection right when they were Freeserve, so this explains why.
