Extreme lag in games

Hi there!

I have just switched to Vista. My PC is an AthlonXP +1800 overclocked slightly. 1Gig RAM and an ATI Radeon x1300. Everything runs surprisingly smooth and without trouble. But I am now having major lag when I play games. Such as BF2. Some servers i don't have any trouble with, but they are usually with very low number of players. However when I play on my regular server with up to 50 players it's lagging like mad. Kind of funny actually cause everything seems like a slow motion in movies. Anyway I did not have that issue wi9th XP. I turned off some of the services. But i still get major lag. Are there any tweaks to help me or should I just go back to XP and shoot the vista box?

Thank You.

Regards.

I would go back to XP myself and not worry about it. :thumbup

No "real" benefit at this point in time running vista over xp, for gaming. :hello:

DirectX 10 is not that big of a deal but if you just got to have it, then really only reason I know of to try and fix the issues.

Wast of time, money, and effort otherwise, in my so humble opinion.

For that comp you should definitely use XP, no doubt about it. Only 1GB of RAM is considered low even for XP nowadays.

Replacing that graphics card with something faster will make your gaming experience so much better, also getting a faster CPU (depending on what your mainboard can take) will make it even better for you. You things are not very expensive, but just don't spend too much on that old comp.

On an XP system BF2 needs 2GB of ram for a completely smooth gaming experience. Now you're using vista which is probably using half or over half of your already small available RAM.

Thanks guys.

I installed Vista just to see it in action. When XP was coming out there was just as much of a negative attacks on it as there are now for Vista. So I decided to see. I will be updating my PC soon, but for now I am super tight on money\

As for memory for running BF2 1Gig is plenty. You must be mixing it up with BF2142.

no he means BF2.

on vista with 1GB of ram, you can barely use the OS. you need at least 2GB of ram to use vista properly, that is without gaming.

if you want to game then you definatly need 3GB or more.

2GB is the absolute minimum that i suggest using for vista.

I stand corrected. My mind still works in XP.
