Hi All,

I have been using WPI for quite a while now to do unattended installs, and along the way have had to do some troubleshooting on various things. But this one has me stumped.

I copied my WPI folder to a USB key, and plugged it into a PC with Windows XP SP2, .NET Framework 2, and IE v6.0.2900.2180 on it. When I launch WPI.hta I get the following message: "This useroptions.js file is not a v5.0 compatible file. Delete the file and start WPI again".

When I delete the file I get the same message again.

Any help would be appreciated.

Which version of WPI are you using? Also do you have write permissions on the usb drive?

And did you modify any files?

Hi Kel,

I have used this exact setup to test in a virtual environment on a different machine. So I have no permission issues as far as I know, and I didn't modify any files. I wonder if there is a version issue, however. I think that I am using WPI 6.2. As I stated earlier, the PC in question has IE v6.0.2900.2180 with SP2, I believe, and Windows XP Pro with SP2, but not SP2 Update, installed.

Ok that was pointless sorry (Nothing wrong in there.)

Are you using a weird command to start WPI with? I mean are you denoting a custom options file during the start proccess.

IE6 is fine WPI as will run on XP SP0 just fine right out of the box.

As I stated before, I have used this USB key before to test installs with a VM. WPI is started with an Autorun.inf that simply calls WPI.HTA. But even if I manually run WPI.HTA I get the same error mesage. However I am running it with a custom config file, config001.js, if I remember correctly. But this has caused me no problems in the past.

Should be a simple fix then just dl a fresh copy ad replace all WPI files one of your files musta gotten corrupted.

I just doublechecked the USB key with my main PC, and it works, both in the Windows 2000 OS and the Windows XP virtual machine. I think that maybe I will rerun my nlited WXP UI CD on the machine in question, and start with a clean machine.

Ahhhhh nLite

Ya know there is some kinda service (Don't know yet which one) or file that can be removed with nlite that causes WPI to choke.

Also Nero 7 made it have errors.

Okay, what do you think about this; I will reinstall WXP Pro from the original media, and then SP2 and SP2 update. Then with a fresh OS, it should work.

Then I will reinstall WXP from my nLited CD. I have used this CD numerous times before without any issues. Then see if there is any problem with WPI. This will tell me if the problem is specific to the PC in question when setup with nLite, as opposed to with original media.

OK so over the weekend I only had time to do a clean install of WXP Pro from the original media. That means no SPs, hotfixes, or nLite. Then when I tried WPI it worked perfectly. I have used this PC before for some 'experimentation', maybe I inadvertently broke something.
