WTF?When I just leave the computer sit it goes to like 15% or 11% then jumps to 40% for a bit then back down. Why.... cluberti Posted January 22, 2008 Share Posted January 22, 2008 I'd personally blame the Windows Updates service, as it lives in an svchost.exe process and invokes trustedinstaller.exe to scan for updates. I didn't see it in "services.msc" It would help a lot if the annoying pop up would just go away when you turn windows update off. I'd keep it off but I can't stand that. Or did it stop annoying you in Vista?Actually, Vista SP1 severely limited trustedinstaller.exe, so it no longer chews up my CPU. I've been running SP1 for a little while now, so I've not noticed it anymore, but I do remember just disabling WU and the security center popups before SP1.
