tal ormanda Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 (edited) These processes are always sorta high like this when I'm not doing anything right when I turn the computer on. WTF?When I just leave the computer sit it goes to like 15% or 11% then jumps to 40% for a bit then back down. Why.... Edited January 22, 2008 by tal ormanda
PC_LOAD_LETTER Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 looks like your not the first person to see this issuehttp://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?show...581487&st=0http://rias-techno-wizard.blogspot.com/200...s-100-high.htmlhttp://thegreenbutton.com/forums/thread/201251.aspxShort AnswerDo the following:Start > Control Panel > Classic View > Problem Reports and Solutions > Clear Solution and Problem History > (Confirm that you want to clear the history) > Close the control panelId try the third fix first because it seems to be the only one that isnt a knee-jerk reaction method (its not working right so delete/disable it) instead of finding the source of the problemif that doesn't work, there seems to be no shortage of people with opinions on how to fix it
cluberti Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 I'd personally blame the Windows Updates service, as it lives in an svchost.exe process and invokes trustedinstaller.exe to scan for updates. If you haven't already, I'd disable that service and only enable it once a month to check for updates, then disable it again.
nitroshift Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 I turned off Solution and Problem History.... Doesn't help me at all.
tal ormanda Posted January 22, 2008 Author Posted January 22, 2008 Where would I disable trustedinstaller.exe? I didn't see it in "services.msc" It would help a lot if the annoying pop up would just go away when you turn windows update off. I'd keep it off but I can't stand that. Or did it stop annoying you in Vista?

I've been running SP1 for a little while now, so I've not noticed it anymore, but I do remember just disabling WU and the security center popups before SP1.
tal ormanda Posted January 22, 2008 Author Posted January 22, 2008 How do you disable the popup when you turn windows update off?
