vert Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 hi, my problem is that ive been trying to install the media center edition extender for the xbox 360 and i figured out my problem, when trying to install it, it would say i was on an incompatible OS (http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/2860/error1rp6.jpg) , but i looked in my media center and everything was fine, it said windows xp media center edition 2005 update rollup 2, exactly what i needed... heres a screenshot: (http://img522.imageshack.us/img522/3008/error2lg7.jpg)then after i took a look at Properties after right clicking the My Computer icon, and this is what came up:http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/6051/error3bl8.jpgit says im on windows mce 2002, which i know is incorrect considering i bought it from dell as a 2005 mce and this was in 2006, so they wouldnt have sold me an old version of MCE, and second i have the MCE 2005 install disk on hand, so it is legit.so my question is how do i fix this problem? i would really love to install the media center extender but it requires im on MCE 2005, but the version number is what ruins everything... thanks to anyone who helps
PC_LOAD_LETTER Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 the system properties showing version 2002 isnt your problem. according to MS thats a known issuehttp://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;837707as for why the xbox 360 isnt working right, i can only guesshttp://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/200.../01/566324.aspxHi Aznk1d2 - The issue on Carl Morris' system was that the system had the C drive configured as a dynamic disk. Xbox 360 PC setup and Media Center extenders do not support that. Carl had to update the partitions on his hard drive to allow installation of Xbox 360 PC setup to succeed. This might help on your system as well.maybe that fits your scenario too?

vinodh Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 I noticed that the .Net Framework can effect the identifier of Windows. It seems that Media Center prefers .Net 1.1 with it's SP1. If you have ver 2, remove it first and install this version: http://download.ryanvm.net/files/dotnet11sp1.exe[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center]"Ident"="2.8"This key show the identifier that can cause problems with the reporting of MCE versions. After installing the .NET framework and Update Rollup 2, my system shows "4.0". If changing the framework version doesn't work, change that key to "4.0" and then try the Xbox install. Make sure you backup that regkey before you try this.

vinodh Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 Yes. Try that. It might work. This problem gave me a lot of hassle recently.
vert Posted January 19, 2008 Author Posted January 19, 2008 Yes. Try that. It might work. This problem gave me a lot of hassle recently.ok well now i have an even worse problem, media center will not run anymore i get this error:http://img293.imageshack.us/img293/7164/crash1op6.jpgand it also wont let me update to rollup, so im stuck on rollup 1 and i cant even run MC, what am i left to do? i tried running the update from IE7, windows explorer, and i downloaded the rollup 2 executable file from microsoft, and none will work!
nafanek Posted May 24, 2008 Posted May 24, 2008 I have this same problem. I've checked the indent value and it reads 4.0. Media Center says that I'm running 2005. Basically, I have Vert's exact problem. Has anyone had any ideas since?
det_hod Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 exact same problem here.i tried to install the media extender for the xbox360 to which i got a message recommending that i de-install the rollup 2 for mce 2005 and then try re-installing it. during the process, it stated that 20-odd programs might not work. after the reboot, it wouldn't install the rollup again, stating that my version of windows isn't recognised! the media center setup doesn't work anymore either.it's been a long hot day, and following a stream of anglo-saxon explative's, it's got me stumped (for the mo'). a nice little system recovery later, and nowt is amiss.only problem with system recovery, is that it stops you learning how to fix the probs would be nice to 'cheat' a little and find out a way of sorting it out though, thanks in advancedet
