Task Bar Volume Control Icon Missing

For some reason I have lost the little icon for my volume control on my task bar. I have read all kinds of ideas as how to fix it but I just went through Heck fixing a system mess and I don't want to creat another problem. This problem occurred after I was finished and the icon was there for several days. I reas one comment from somebody who said there was an easy fix by downloading a Volume Control Repair program. Not sure what the program is. Need
