vyse
recently i modified the path of index data from C:\ProgramData\Microsoft to D:\TMP.then i changed it back to default C:\ProgramData\Microsoft.and without reboot,i delete D:\TMP.so the config files got lost.Using SFC,i rebuild two files in search\data\config\but the path still is D:\TMP after several change and reboots.HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Search\there're "DataDirectory" character string value and "DataDirectory" itemvalue are same D:\TMPthe first value changable, but the second errorssimilarly,"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Search\Gathering Manager\DefaultApplicationsPath" and "TempPath" is D:\TMP and can't change.so i can only modify DataDirectory character string to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft,and search\data\temp fixed in D:\TMPHOW could i restore it back to normal Edited January 10, 2008 by Kelsenellenelvian Fixed the ALL IN CAPS TITLE... Extravert
Due to a hierarchy lay-out of Vista some items cannot be removed from the OS partition. It is due to smome CLSID's in the registry and no one knows the one to change than Microsoft himself. The only possibility is calling Microsoft or a much cheaper sollution is to do a in-place upgrade/repair.It all has to do with securityPS: Try to fix it in a superadmin account, but take knowledge of the risks. Kelsenellenelvian
Please don't cross post like that again it is against the rules and very annoying simply if no-one has replied to your new thread in a couple of days give it a little *bump* as this will bring it back into attention. (Remember a couple of DAYS not hours) Also NO DOUBLE POSTING. Grrrrrrrrrr. Now that thats said I think you may need a reformatt or a repair install.
