Win XP, SP1, SP3 and KB942615

Background;

I've been having the "issue" where IE crashes all the time, since running Windows update several weeks ago. This has been happening to several desktops and laptops. I went ahead and ran SP3/3244 on several of them, hoping it may fix the issue...no luck. (These aren't mission critical pc's/laptops, obviously.) Tried the fixes referenced by bink ( Bink.nu ) and generally mined this issue thouroughly. Finally uninstalled kb942615 and everythings been working like a charm ever since.

CAN kb942615 be removed from SP3? Is there a patch that I can slipstream into an unattended build to overwright this one? Should I just shut up and wait for the final build of SP3?

btw; I bult an install with a fresh copy of Windows XP with no service packs. I slipstreamed SP1a, exited nLite, restarted nLite and slipstreamed SP3. (MS says it's a problem with SP2 and kb942615...Was hoping to eliminate it by going from SP1a right to sp3. Apparently, that was a waste of time. ) Didn't even think of doing any other tweaks/add-ons/updates/etc. Still, IE crashes when first started.

It mentioned 942615 replaces 939653. So, I downloaded that one and slipstreamed it into my SP3 build, overwriting 942615 apparently. After installing and booting it in vmware, no more IE crashes. Windows update doesn't like something about it though. Totally freaks with "Windows Validation error", repeatedly.

I might abandon the SP1 part of this and start over with a fresh copy of XP SP2, and THEN continue down this path.
