I lost my copy of my Windows XP cd, and my friend has graciously made me a copy of his XP Pro SP2 cd; however, i am worried about the integrity of the files on the cd, and was wondering if it would help if i re-slipstream SP2 to ensure that the files are not altered in any way, would there be any problems with doing this?

Um? Windows CDs are going to be read-only, so there's no way it could've gotten changed. It's fine. Now, you will have a problem if it's a different type of media than your license is for. Remember, retail oem and upgrade are not compatible.

Well i am unsure of the origins of this cd, and frankly do not trust it... i just desperately need the cd... :-(

What does this CD look like? Is it a burned CD or a hologram or have the name of a computer company? A burned CD might not necessarily mean it was altered and you can't change pressed CDs or CD-Rs once they're made.

You can always pay $30 for a replacement, $150-$300 depending on the type you need by buying it from the store again.
