newsposter Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 Ok, we can ping the file server all day. But in Explorer, typing in \\192.168.0.110 just results in a message "windows cannot find \\192.168.0.110"Other machines can connect to the file server just fine.Any ideas?
nuhi Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 If you removed "TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper" then only Router with DHCP server on it enabled can help you. At least this was the case in Vista. Also don't disable services other than what can be removed with nLite, Workstation is crucial. Install and enable Microsoft Network in TcpIp properties of your LAN connection if it's not.
newsposter Posted December 21, 2007 Author Posted December 21, 2007 (edited) does the tcp/ip netbios helper service have to be running or just installed? And as I think more on this, a duh moment comes up, etc, etc.A properly built DHCP zone will have all of the netbios infomation prconfigured. If you're using static IP addys and no WINS server, you need the TCP/IP NetBios helper in place so that Explorer can connect. Just because RDP and simple tcp/ip service work doesn't mean that NetBios stuff will. Edited December 21, 2007 by newsposter
