lucianserpescu Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 I have an Intel E6750 on a Gigabyte Motherboard (G33-DS3R). When I run CPU-Z v1.42 it shows the multiplier to be 6 (most of the times) and rarely it changes to 8, but returns to 6 immediately. The core voltage varies from 1.152V to 1.296V. So, the core speed shows 2000 Mhz. When I run Intel Processor ID Utility the core speed is 2.66 Ghz. Is this normal....is it because of a bios setting?Please help!
xrs Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 This is normal because SpeedStep technology has been enabled by default on newer Core 2 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speedstep) which saves power by decreasing the CPU multiplier and voltage according to current CPU load. You can disable this setting in BIOS.

xrs Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 It is recommended for normally working CPUs, however if you want to overclock it would be better to disable it completely.
