heffalump Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 I am having trouble with this problem! I used HFSLIP to put together a SOURCESS folder, which was originally from a Windows XP Pro integrated SP2 CD. To that setup I added all the critical updates and 3 switchless/unattended files. I'm pretty sure I put them in the right folders. The 3 exe files I made were for dotNET 2.0 (using the switchless creation script I found here somewhere), plus DX9.0c redistributable (repacked using 7zip as per the tutorial also here) and repack of Media Player 10. I tested each exe before as well and they all installed fine unattended. Now I went and use the resulting SOURCESS with nLite (and used the contents of NEWBIN.TXT to keep the files in that list) so everything all works fine and I remove a couple of things, but keep most of the services and windows components just to see if I can get this working properly first. I filled in all of the fields correctly. So come time to test the ISO I load it up into MS Virtual Machine 4. The ISO and the VM files are on seperate hard drives (as is my host operating system) so there shouldn't be much slowdown and it all works fine. I see the 3 exes extracting and the HDD indicator in VM4 showed they installed. So then it gets past the "Registering software" bit (I think it was?) but is now stuck at 9 minutes remaining "Saving Settings" The progress bar is stuck near the start! The background/XP blurb and the little graphic are cycling as usual though. VM4 is not showing any activity in the HDD led. The network led is flashing though.Help! I am almost finished with my CD but this is stuck near the end part
Arie Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 Does your installation go fine if you only use HFSLIP and not nLite? There isn't anything that HFSLIP can't do that nLite can, so why use nLite on your source which you created using HFSLIP? I personally only use HFSLIP as using both creates more work in the end than only using one would do and the chance that problems might occur are higher as well when you use both.
heffalump Posted November 29, 2007 Author Posted November 29, 2007 (edited) I haven't making an ISO using the HFSLIP install source. I will try that next! I was under the impression that using HFSLIP you can get a smaller footprint because it merges a few things first. I use nLite for the tweaks and removal of Windows Tour for example. Is there really no difference in how they build a source?Right now I am trying something else. I have taken the contents of my XP Pro SP2 CD and am using that only as the source i.e. no updates or addons, not made using HFSLIP; but using the same settings as I did before. I'll report if that has a problem too. Edited November 29, 2007 by heffalump
heffalump Posted November 29, 2007 Author Posted November 29, 2007 Well using only my original CD as the source it is installing fine now and got past the stuck point from before. Next I will try a HFSLIP only install and if that is a problem I'll post in that forum
heffalump Posted November 29, 2007 Author Posted November 29, 2007 (edited) Ok so I manually created a bootable ISO using my HFSLIP source and the problem is there, so it seems to be something to do with that. Help please? Can a mod move this thread into the HFSLIP forum please? Thanks! UPDATE: I started all over again with a clean copy of my source CD and now it is working. It might have been something corrupted! But so long as it works I'm happy Edited November 29, 2007 by heffalump
