heffalump Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 Hi! I am trying to get my first slipstreamed XP install going and so far everything seems straightforward. I've placed the SOURCE files and the necessary updates, plus direct x 9.0c and WMP10 (I didn't want 11!) so all those are in the right folders. But now I am in need of some help and advice, specifically with dotnet 2.0 and Windows Installer 3.1 - how can I slipstream those and where can I download silent/hands free install versions? dotnet 2 requires installer 3.1 to be installed first I believe? Or do I not have to worry about that? Also how would I go about adding things like Winzip and other applications unattended and during the slipstream?Last question: any tutorial on how to use HFSLIP with nLite? I'd like to use HFSLIP to put everything together and just use nLite to remove a few things and apply some tweaks. What would be the easiest way of doing this?Thank you very much for your time

Personally, I prefer using RogueSpear's .NET packages, which I put in the GUIRUNONCE folder, and works perfectly for me - Available here: http://www.doitrightconsulting.net/forum/. Integrating applications... You can use some addon application packages - take a look at the advanced features - http://hfslip.org/extras.html.You can use nLite with HFSLIP - Just grab the files in this thread: http://www.msfn.org/board/Utility-Collect-...IP-t105761.htmlAnd copy the contents of NEWBIN.TXT into nLite's KEEP files in the Removal dialog. I've used nLite to remove the Windows Tour, and MSNExplorer, to save on space where I needed drivers and couldn't fit it all on a dvd due to system constraints (i.e.: no dvd drive). Worked fine for me.
heffalump Posted November 28, 2007 Author Posted November 28, 2007 Thank you very much, sounds like everything needed answered! I can't seem to find RogueSpear's dotnet 2.0 on that forum (I tried a search) would you happen to know the exact thread or direct link? Thanks in advance!
jimmsta Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 http://www.doitrightconsulting.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=132You DO need to have an account on their forums in order to download any files.
johndoe74 Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 yeah, his switchless installers are available in the "Releases" thread which you have to be registered in order to access
heffalump Posted November 28, 2007 Author Posted November 28, 2007 Ok! I just have to wait for an account to be activated then I will try that switchless installer. It sounds like the easiest option. Thanks for all the help
Arie Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 Hi! I am trying to get my first slipstreamed XP install going and so far everything seems straightforward. Or do I not have to worry about that?Add Windows Installer 3.1 to your HF folder. Add RogueSpear's silent installer packages of Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 and 2.0 SP1 to your HFSVCPACK folder. You can install RogueSpear's silent installer package for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 via RunOnceEx for example. Also how would I go about adding things like Winzip and other applications unattended and during the slipstream? You can create your own silent installer packages of applications which you would like to add and place those in your HFSVCPACK folder. MSI-files which require no configuration can be placed in your HFSVCPACK_SW1 folder. For more information on creating your own silent installer packages, there are various tutorials to be found on this forum. As for placing which files where within the HFSLIP folder structure, see the HFSLIP web site.Last question: any tutorial on how to use HFSLIP with nLite? I'd like to use HFSLIP to put everything together and just use nLite to remove a few things and apply some tweaks. What would be the easiest way of doing this?By not using nLite There isn't anything that nLite does, which HFSLIP wouldn't be able to do. You can import registry tweaks for example via your HFSVCPACK folder. You can place batch scripts there as well which get launched automatically. I prefer HFSLIP over nLite as HFSLIP gives me more control over the final result.
heffalump Posted November 29, 2007 Author Posted November 29, 2007 (edited) Thanks Arie! I have done all the steps, figured out how to make own installer also Only reason I've used nLite is for the tweaking and removal of stuff like Windows Tour and services like Remote Registry which I never enable anyway. Unfortunately I don't know enough about Windows to know what nLite does to actually remove these things. Some are most likely registry tweaks which could be looked up on google I suppose but, for example, I don't know which files are related to what and if they should be removed or kept in relation to an item I would like removed. I hope that explains it Edited November 30, 2007 by heffalump
