Windows XP SP2 + Geforce 2 MX

i have several machines all with the same problem

i am at my wits end with these things.

Several different intel chipset machines machines with XP SP2 have this problem

if i remove the nvidia card and replace it with an ATI or use the onboard intel (where available) I do not have this issue

the card in question are Nvidia Geforce 2 MX/MX 400 and/or Geforce4 MX 440with AGP 8x

Ive attached 2 minidump files but when i dumpchk ed them, i couldnt get anything useful out of them

BSOD always occurs at nv4_min.sys or nv4_disp.sys and i dont have the address at the moment

heres what i have tried:

Different Systems of the same type (Gateway E3600 and Dell GX260/GX270) -but same issue occurs on a generic AMD 700Mhz machine too

Different video cards (same models as those listed above)

Drivercleaner (cabs cleaned too) and reinstall of nvidia 93.71 and 66.?? driver

Fresh install of XP SP2 + Nvidia driver 93.71

Rythmic chanting of "The way its meant to be played" and "Where do you want to go today?" during driver install

prolly some other stuff i cant remember trying

this is one of those cases of is should just work but it isn't. the machines are clean 100% up to date legit XP with only office 2007 installed

I have an older GeForce2 running on a PC somewhere. Its been using the 6x.xx or 7x.xx driver series. Try older drivers if you're having issues.

If you don't want to go that far backwards, try the 85.xx series. That worked on mine too.

XP SP2.

Indeed, I remember using 84.xx drivers with those cards. The 8x.xx should run fine, also try to update your directX, you never know...

EDIT: By the way, try the Omega drivers...

im prolly gonna start with the hacked set(s) of drivers next since i recall using a 80 series driver too.

thanks for the input guys this problem defies logic so i just wanted to make sure someone wasnt gonna reply with

"oh yeah, i get that problem all the time you have to set the key HKLM\Software\Nvidia\BSODPrefs\OnInstall=0 before installing the driver"

That is a component of the nVidia driver.

You can open the minidump in Windbg and see exactly where it's crashing, maybe something is triggering it. But in general, keep trying different drivers until the crashes stop.
