buddhabar
Hi, after a nlited Windows XP setup made with nlite 1.3 I've noticed that my 56k modem no longer works. ( I know, it's 2007 and someone is still using dialup connection... what a shame )I've copied the old telephone number of my ISP and create a new connection using that number; when i tried to connect a window appears saying that there is no signal, but the same modem used with another pc (without any "nlitement") on the same telephone line works and connects... So I've tried another modem: this time the window "Connecting to ######" appears, but the modem emits no sign of life and that window remains there. The modem were of course connected to the telephone line (I'm not so stupid ) and the XP drivers were successfully installed, any advice? This is my nlite configuration:[Main]Env = 1.3.5 - 2.0.50727.832.Microsoft Windows NT 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2Target = Windows XP Professional SP:2 - 5.1.2600.2180 - Italiano (Italia)[Tasks]Remove ComponentsUnattended SetupHotfixes and Update PacksCreate a Bootable ISO[Components];# Applicazioni #Accesso FacilitatoClipBook ViewerGiochi InternetMappa dei CaratteriSincronia File;# Driver #ISDNModalità di Trasferimento Asincrono (ATM)MultiFunzionePenna seriale da TabletPeriferiche a NastroScheda decodifica DVD ToshibaSchede Video (datate)Sony Jog Dial;# Multimedia #Cursori del MouseMovie MakerSample musicaliSintesi e riconoscimento vocaleSupporto al Formato Immagine AOL ARTTablet PCVecchio CDPlayer e Registratore di Suoni;# Opzioni Sistema Operativo #Assistente di RicercaCentro Sicurezza PCCombinazione ColoriDR WatsonEditor Carattere PersonaleModelli amministrativiModelli di documentoPulitura discoPulitura Guidata DesktopTourTrasferimento Guidato File e ImpostazioniVista Web;# Rete #Cartelle WebClient per la Rete NetwareComunicazioniEstensioni di FrontPageManager di SincronizzazioneMonitor di ReteMSN ExplorerNetmeetingPeer-to-PeerProtocollo NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBIOSVector Graphics RenderingWindows Messenger;# Servizi #Archivi rimovibiliAvvisiMessengerRegistro RemotoServer TelnetServizi Fax;# Supporto Hardware #Adattatori seriali multi-portaIomega Zip drivePeriferiche Brother;# Cartelle #DOCSSUPPORTVALUEADD;# Compatibilità #Compat01Compat02Compat06Compat07Compat08Compat09Compat13Compat14[KeepFiles]msconfig.exe[RemoveFiles]clock.aviyahoo.bmpswtchbrd.bmp[Options]ProfilesDir = "%SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings"TargetPath = "WINDOWS"temp_dir = %USERPROFILE%\Impostazioni locali\Temp[Patches][services2][Tweaks][unattended]ComputerType = PredefinitoFirewallOffMaximumDataStorePercentOfDisk = 10RestorePointLife = 30DesktopTheme = Predefinito||AutoUpdates = 3AutoUDay = 5AutoUHour = 15ProgFilesPath = "\Programmi"[NetAdapter1]connname = ""macaddress = ""ipaddress = "192.168.0.1"subnetmask = "255.255.255.0"defaultgateway = ""dnsserver1 = ""dnsserver2 = ""winsserver = ""netbiossetting = "0"ipxnetworknumber = "00000000"ipxnetworkframetype = "0xFF"[GuiRunOnce][Drivers][Hotfixes]list of updatesThanks (and sorry for grammatical mistakes, I'm form Italy, correct me so I learn more correct English!) mara-
Maybe this is not problem with nLite at all. Try this:Open Help and Support and type this into search bar:Wait for dial tone before dialingFollow the steps (you need to uncheck option Wait for dial tone before dialing).Cheers Edited November 24, 2007 by mara-
buddhabar
Hi, thanks for your suggestion, I've tried it and once a time in several attempts the modem emits the classic noise but it stops after a few seconds (but at least it's an improvement!)BTW I've previously disable various windows services (following the BlackViper safe preset + little personal enhancements), someone knows which are the essential services required to dial-up (or the winXP components not to remove?)Thanks
mara-
OK, I think I found the problem. You removed the communication tools (on your preset Comunicazioni). Read the description in nlite for this and you will see that it includes Phone Dialer. And I recommend you to switch to the latest version of nlite, version 1.4 Final since a lot of bugs is repaired.Cheers
buddhabar
You are right! The safe preset of nlite remove it... Is there a way to install it in windows without formatting and reinstalling XP? (I've read the nlite faq, especially "Can i add things back once they have been removed?", but i have always a last hope...)

Arie
There is no such thing as a stupid question, but asking a question which is clearly answered in the FAQ and of which you even state that you have read it, especially the question "Can i add things back once they have been removed?", comes close you can't add things back to an nLited installationWhich part of "cannot" do you not understand? buddhabar
Ehm, my poor english didn't allow me to understand if I can't add thing to a nlited Windows CD or a nlited Windows installation on the hard disk... Thank you and sorry for my stupidity
