You need permission to perform this action

Okay, i've seen this posted several places over the past two years, with all version of Vista, but have never seen a solution posted anywhere. Hopefully, someone has figured out a solution for this issue by now??

I have one PC with Windows Vista Home Premium (x86) edition. I have a laptop with Windows XP SP2 installed. I am currently logged on to both systems as local administrator. I have created a public share on the XP system, with Everyone:Full_Control permissions. (From desperation, not normal practice.)

From the Vista system, if i browse the XP computer from the command-line (Vista -> Run -> \\remoteXPSystemName), i get a window that shows all public shares on the XP system; including the one i wish to copy files from. I can select that share and open it, and see all files in that share. I can remotely open files in that share. BUT -- if i try to copy files from that share to a local folder on my Vista system, i always get a denial that states "You need permission to perform this action."

I turned off UAC, but still get the same denial. I created a local share with Everyone:Full_Control on the Vista system and attempted to copy the files directly to it, but still get the same denial.

I can copy the files to a flash drive and transfer them to the Vista system, but that defeats the purpose of having a home network, and paying several hundred dollars per copy of network operating system, aye?

Any ideas...??

Thanks,

» Sean

I have a workaround but don't know if you like it or not.

I have 2 PCs and same configuration as yours except the Vista is Business. When I need a file from my XP machine I use "Remote Desktop" to access the machine and choose the option "Connect local Drives" in the Vista PC. Then I can copy all files from XP to Vista without any problem except.

Do you think this will work for you???:rolleyes:

Where is the folder on the Vista system - is it in the root of a drive, or somewhere other than the "Documents" folder in your profile?
