Apply Method hotfixes

If lets say i added a bunch of hotfixes and used the apply method... how does it work?

does it install them during/after installation or does it replace files like rebuild method (i think). Same question about service packs too when they can be integrated....

Also would the installation take longer? As you can guess i hardly use the "Apply" method

Both Apply methods (Just save and Rebuild) contain the same files, it's just the first one contains the old image plus the extra bits while the rebuild overwrites the replaced or removes the removed ones.

This doesn't influence the outcome, only the way how the image is written, transparent to the user.
