VMware Workstation 6 or Microsoft VPC2007

Ok guys, for all who have used these programmes. Which do you prefer ?

i had Vpc 04 and 07 and my pc and i also had vmware 6. Now this is what i found out with them.

With Vpc 07 installed, the pc booted up normal (host)

With VMware installed, the pc took and extra 20-25 secs to boot everytime the pc was turned on or restarted.

Installing and OS on Vpc 07 took a while longer than it would normally with out a virtual environment.

Vmware installes OS's faster than my pc installed : XP, Vista, Ubuntu <--- thats the 3 i installed so far .

I still dont know how to get internet on Vpc to work and neither does it support usb devices.

Vmware has an option to use its host's internet to conect or yuh can directly connect through the programme. im using Gprs net, through my nokia 6230i

Well this is just some of what i realized using these two programmes, can you guys say what problems or what you like about any of these two apps ?

over and out

I used to use VMware, but it just keeps growing and adds more services and other annoying stuff with each new version.

Many people consider VPC not to be quite as good as VMware or VirtualBox.

There are some old threads on the subject, search and you may find some interesting info.

Which virtualization software you use depends on which OSs you want as hosts and guests, since some work better than others.

VMWare are the only ones with software that can support 64-bit guests. For testing an XP64 slipstream I made with nLite, this was very handy. XP64 ran slow in VMWare Server, but for just testing the installation it worked. Speaking of which, VMWare doesn't like Vista x64 host at all, since none of it's drivers are signed. Getting it to run on Vista x64 is clumsy and very unprofessional (F8 every boot).

VPC2007 is only for Windows, and only officially supports 32-bit Windows guests and OS/2. I tried it for OS/2 and it ran but some aspects seem slow, probably due to the very low PC specs it virtualizes.

Virtualbox is for Window, Linux, and Mac hosts. It support many guest OSs. It's a little flaky, my Vista x64 host seems to blue screen if I really stress the virtual machine (again, OS/2). The latest version is also practically unusable for me. However it runs fast and has an extensive community.

I wanted to try Parallels, but they still make people pay for even the basic software.
